First characterization of Erwinia amylovora isolates from Austria and fire blight susceptibility of some apple genotypes from Central Europe.
A study of Erwinia amylovora isolates from Austria showed that they were less aggressive than the standard strain CFBP 1430 from France in apple (cv. Golden Delicious) and pear (cv. Kirchensaller) seedling tests. Evaluation of the susceptibility of 34 apple cultivars and genotypes grown in Central Europe showed that most cultivars were highly susceptible to fire blight. However, 4 genotypes with suitable features for cider production were comparable to 2 resistant cultivars (cv. Robusta 5 and Florina).
