Abstract

Leaf survival in relation to environmental stress, leaf and plant traits among Quercus leucotrichophora seedlings.

Abstract

The percentage leaf survival in Quercus leucotrichophora seedlings grown in different environments in plastic bags increased with increasing moisture and light availability, and decreased with increasing nutrient availability. Leaf number, leaf area, leaf mass, relative growth rate (RGR), height growth and dry phytomass of seedlings increased with increasing leaf survival. However, specific leaf area (SLA), net assimilation rate (NAR), and leaf area ratio (LAR) decreased with increasing leaf survival. Leaf number was positively related (P < 0.05) to leaf area and leaf mass, while SLA was negatively related (p < 0.05) to leaf area, leaf mass, RGR, height growth and dry phytomass of seedlings.
