Abstract

Aromatic plants of Rwanda. II. Chemical composition of essential oils of ten Eucalyptus species growing in Ruhande Arboretum, Butare, Rwanda.

Abstract

The essential oils of leaves of 10 Eucalyptus species (E. botryoides, E. citriodora, E. dives, E. globulus, E. punctata, E. maculata, E. macarthurii, E. maidenii, E. smithii and E. tereticornis) grown in Rwanda have been examined by GC/MS. More than 100 compounds were characterized in the oils. E. maidenii and E. smithii oils were rich in 1,8-cineole [eucalyptol] (70-85%), E. dives oil was rich in piperitone (33%) and E. macarthurii oil was rich in geranyl acetate (50%).
