Abstract

Honey bees and epiphytic bacteria to control fire blight, a bacterial disease of apple and pear.

Abstract

This review, with 71 references, includes discussions of: epiphytic bacteria as biological control agents, laboratory assays, mode of action of biological control agents, reliable long-term control, possible future methods of control. Several studies have described how bacteria which reduce the incidence of fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) can be delivered to flowers by honey bees.
