Abstract

The foundations of this multiauthor book lie in a global research project on pond aquaculture involving research workers from several universities in the USA and 6 countries (Honduras, Indonesia, Panama, the Philippines, Rwanda and Thailand) that hosted experiments. After an introductory chapter, the remaining 15 chapters cover the following: (1) history of the pond dynamics/aquaculture collaborative research support programme; (2) water quality in ponds; (3) pond fertilization regimes; (4) climate, site and pond design, (5) pond bottom soils; (6) environmental considerations; (7) attributes of tropical pond-cultured fish; (8) factors affecting fish growth and production; (9) fry and fingerling production; (10) feeding strategies; (11) parasitic and infectious diseases of tilapia; (12) computer applications in pond aquaculture; (13) experimental design and analysis in aquaculture; (14) economic considerations; (15) developing and extending aquaculture technology for producers. There is an index of subjects and species.
