Abstract

The biology of Vulpia bromoides and V. myuros is reviewed. Information is presented on the following aspects: nomenclature; identification; history; distribution (maps are provided); habitat, including climatic requirements, substratum and plant associations; growth and development, including morphology, perennation, physiology and phenology; reproduction, including floral biology, seed production and dispersal, and physiology of seeds and germination; hybrids; population dynamics; the detrimental and beneficial effects of these weeds; weed management, including herbicides (pasture manipulation, spray-topping and crop situations), other control methods (cultivation and grazing) and integrated control.
