Abstract

Antibiogram of respiratory mycoplasmas of caprine and ovine origin.

Abstract

The following were isolated from the respiratory tract of sheep and goats; 5 isolates of Mycoplasma capricolum, 1 of M. arginini, 2 of M. ovipneumoniae, 1 of M. conjunctivae, 1 of M. agalactiae, 1 of M. mycoides subsp. mycoides, 1 of Acholeplasma oculi, 10 of A. laidlawii and 1 of Mycoplasma Group 5. Isolates were examined for sensitivity to erythromycin (15 µg), kanamycin (30 mg), polymixin B (30 µg) nitrofurantoin (300 units), nalidixic acid (30 µg), bacitracin (10 units), viomycin (30 µg), ampicillin (10 µg) and neomycin (30 µg). All the isolates were resistant to polymixin except 1 each of M. capricolum and A. laidlawii isolates. All the M. capricolum isolates were resistant to viomycin, nalidixic acid, ampicillin, bacitracin and neomycin. There was variation in the sensitivity of A. laidlawii isolates. Most of the isolates were sensitive to kanamycin and erythromycin.
