Abstract

Genetics of foot rot and seedling blight resistance in wheat.

Abstract

The genetics of resistance to foot rot and seedling blight, caused by Helminthosporium sativum [Cochliobolus sativus], was studied in three resistant wheat lines, CPAN1922, E8667 and NP825, by crossing them with each other and with the susceptible varieties Sonalika and Narmada 4. Studies under artificial inoculation in the F1 and F2 generations indicated that the two dominant genes for resistance in E8667 and NP825 are identical, but are different to those in CPAN1922. It is concluded that resistance is controlled by four dominant genes in wheat.
