Abstract

Genetic engineering of the potato for insect resistance.

Abstract

An overview is given of current research into the genetic manipulation of potato for insect pest resistance carried out at the New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research. Work is focused on transferring the genes for the insecticidal proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis into potato in order to provide resistance to the potato tuber moth [Phthorimaea operculella].
