Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Daily locomotor activity in the Indian sweet potato weevil, Euscepes postfasciatus (Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and sweet potato weevil, Cylas formicarius (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Brentidae) monitored by an actograph system.

Abstract

Under a photoregime of 14L:10D, adults of both sexes of Euscepes postfasciatus and Cylas formicarius walked mostly during the dark period, but there was also a slight amount of walking during the light period. The daily patterns of locomotor activity were similar among the sexes and species. Although the weevils moved actively during the scotophase, there were no clear peaks in activity during that period.
