Abstract

Unwelcome visitors to the island at Christmas.

Abstract

Several organisms of quarantine importance were found accompanying Christmas trees [Pinopsida] and other Christmas foliage plants in sealed containers and crates entering Bermuda. Notes are provided on the biology, countries of origin, injuriousness and control of these, accompanied by illustrations of the damage they cause. The arthropod pests dealt with are Adelges cooleyi, Chionaspis pinifoliae, Paradiplosis tumifex, Trisetacus quadrisetus and (on Buxus sp.) Monoarthropalpus buxi. A fungal pest intercepted (on Abies procera) was a species of Pucciniastrum, probably P. epilobii.
