Abstract

Cutaneous sparganosis in France: the second case described from Europe.

Abstract

A 21-year-old man presented with a nut-sized subcutaneous lump on his chest of 10 days duration. Cutaneous sparganosis was diagnosed on histopathological examination after needle biopsy, which showed the presence of a Spirometra plerocercoid. The lesion involuted within a few days without treatment and the patient made a complete recovery. This is the first case of sparganosis to be reported from France. The patient may have become infected through his habit of eating large amounts of smoked salmon.
