Abstract

Studies on biomass production and pulpmaking performance of a Metasequoia glyptostroboides plantation.

Abstract

Biomass production and wood quality were measured from 1990 to 1993 for a Metasequoia glyptostroboides plantation in Baoying County, Jiangsu. Seedlings were planted at 3 densities, viz., 625, 1250 and 2500 plants/ha; the biomass at age 14 years was 73, 65 and 85 tonnes/ha, respectively. The average cellulose content was 47.5% and the average fibre length was 3.175 mm. The relation between stand age, tree height and cellulose content and fibre length is discussed.
