Kikuyugrass management in turf with Turflon Ester in California.
Conventional treatment for turf infested with kikuyu grass (Pennisetum clandestinum) in California typically involved complete renovation of the sward. Triclopyr (as Turflon Ester at 0.5 lb a.i./acre), MSMA (2 lb a.i./acre) and Turflon Ester plus MSMA were tested for the control of this weed during 1989 and 1991. The competitive ability of P. clandestinum, perennial ryegrass [Lolium perenne] cv. Manhattan II, Kentucky bluegrass [Poa pratensis] and tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) cv. Bonsai was also evaluated. Sequential applications of triclopyr plus MSMA gave the greatest control (88%) and reduced the competitiveness of P. clandestinum.
