Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Morphometric analyses of the males of Quadraspidiotus species (Hom., Diaspididae) found in European orchards or their vicinity.

Abstract

Morphological characteristics (antenna, scutellum) of the males of Quadraspidiotus gigas, Q. marani, Q. ostreaeformis, Q. perniciosus, Q. pyri and Q. zonatus were studied and analysed. The length of the scutellum and the width of the 3rd antennal segment proved to be the most distinctive characters for the differentiation of certain species; they enabled individual males of Q. gigas and Q. pyri to be identified. When large samples of males were studied, the average and the frequency distribution of the data were typical and different for most of the species.
