Abstract
Effect of neem seed extract on feeding frequency of Nezara viridula L. (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) on pecan nuts.
Abstract
Different concn of neem seed extract, containing azadirachtin, were found to significantly decrease the number of feeding sites by the pentatomid Nezara viridula on pecan nuts. Application of this extract to nuts decreased the feeding scars on nuts from 6.6 to 1.9/bug per 24 h. This decrease was independent of azadirachtin concn, suggesting that only low application rates of this substance may be necessary to significantly reduce the damage done by this insect in pecan orchards.
