Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Migratory Lepidoptera in 1994 (fifty-fifth year).

Abstract

In this 55th annual report on migratory Lepidoptera in the Netherlands, data are presented on 23 species recorded by 166 observers in 1994. Migration of the indigenous Pieris brassicae and a rare wanderer of Issoria lathonia were observed. Colias crocea, Vanessa atalanta and Autographa gamma were numerous, and the observation of an adult and more than 50 larvae of Daphnis nerii was very unusual. Helicoverpa armigera is more frequently imported with cut flowers and beans from the Middle East and Africa, which makes it hard to distinguish between imported specimens and true migrants, such as Chrysodeixis chalcites.
