Co-evolution of the tamarisks (Tamaricaceae) and pest arthropods (Insecta; Arachnida: Acarina), with special reference to biological control prospects.
This monograph is devoted to the problem of insect-plant coevolution in the genus Tamarix and its oligophages (insects and mites). Information on the taxonomy, distribution, life history and noxiousness is given for 325 species of insects and mites belonging to 88 genera, which attack tamarisks in the Old World. A complex of phytophages is proposed for introduction into North America for biological control of salt cedars (Tamarix spp.).
