Abstract

Covered-field host range test for Pseudomonas solanacearum race 3/biovar 2.

Abstract

Nine solanaceous crops or weeds were planted among wilted potato plants that had been stem inoculated with P. solanacearum race 3 isolate 013 from Huambos, Peru, and were grown under isolation in a terylene mesh tent. Most plants of potato cv. Mariva, aubergine Black Beauty, tomato Marglobel, Capsicum annuum Sweet Yellow and Amarillo, Nicotiana rustica, N. glutinosa and Solanum nigrum wilted soon after transplanting. The tobacco cv. Bottom Special remained healthy. Under especially favourable conditions for disease (the mesh reduced light intensity by c. 4%) this race may cause damage to usually non-susceptible hosts in addition to potato.
