Abstract

Microsporidium and Cyclospora in human stools in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Abstract

Over a 2-year period smears of diarrhoeic stools from 60 HIV-positive patients in Chiang Mai, Thailand, were examined: one was positive for organisms compatible with spores of Microspora. A stool sample from an HIV-positive patient with diarrhoea contained acid-fast oocysts which were compatible with Cyclospora cayetanensis. These are considered to be new records for Thailand.
