Abstract

Biological and morphological studies on spargana isolated from frogs (Bufo viridis): the incidence of spargana.

Abstract

Fifty Bufo viridis from Mosul, Iraq, were found to be infected with unidentified plerocercoids. The distribution and morphometrics of the plerocercoids were studied in 10 of the toads. The larvae were found embedded or encysted in the musculature, mainly in the thigh muscles (53.1%). The mean length of the plerocercoids was 3.6 cm and the mean number of larvae per frog was 9.8. This is the first report of plerocercoids from amphibians in Iraq.
