Nutritive profile of some grasses of Darbhanga.

Abstract

Protein and HCN contents of 22 grass species found in the Darbhanga district of Bihar were analysed. The species were Pennisetum pedicellatum, Leptochloa chinensis, Pennisetum americanum [P. glaucum], Digitaria adscendens [D. ciliaris], Pennisetum purpureum, Pennisetum massaicum, Eleusine indica, Pennisetum polystachyon [P. polystachion], Eragrostis unioloides, Dactyloctenium aegypticum, Brachiaria distachya, Brachiaria milliformis [B. miliiformis], Eleusine verticillata, Digitaria cruciata, Digitaria ciliaris, Eragrostis tenella, Brachiaria kurzii, Brachiaria ramosa, Eragrostis poaeoides [E. minor], Brachiaria reptans, Digitaria longiflora and Eragrostis japonica. The grasses were free from HCN and protein content ranged from 2.24 (E. japonica) to 20.50% (P. pedicellatum).
