Abstract

In vitro propagation of Abies sp.

Abstract

The morphogenic potential of various Abies hybrids and species was tested by the induction of adventitious buds on isolated zygotic embryos in various media. Embryos of A. alba (open-, cross- and self-pollinated) and the hybrid A. alba × A. cephalonica were unable to form adventitious buds. A. concolor and A. grandis were able to form adventitious buds, and the most vigorous adventitious buds were obtained from hybrid embryos of A. concolor × A. grandis. The experiments are discussed, and confirm the significant genetic stability of representatives of Abies in in vitro conditions.
