Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Evaluation of multipurpose tree species and their influence on soil fertility improvement.

Abstract

Growth performance (height and girth) and effects on soil fertility were evaluated for 9 [10] species 5 yr after planting on a red loamy soil in southern Andhra Pradesh. Best growth was by Eucalyptus camaldulensis [no data are given on soil fertility status for this species] and Leucaena leucocephala, while fertility (as measured by soil organic matter, and available P2O5 and K2O) was best under Albizia lebbeck, followed by L. leucocephala. The other species tested were Dalbergia sissoo, Acacia nilotica [no growth data are given for this species], A. albida [Faidherbia albida], A. tortilis, A. auriculiformis, Azadirachta indica and Dendrocalamus strictus.
