Systematic studies in the eucalypts 7. A revision of the bloodwoods, genus Corymbia (Myrtaceae).
A taxonomic revision of the bloodwoods (including the 'ghost gums') is presented. Previous cladistic studies in the eucalypts are re-evaluated; new phylogenetic analyses are presented for the Angophora + Eucalyptus s.l. group, the Angophora + bloodwood clade, and the sections and series of the 'red bloodwoods'. The non-agophoroid, non-bloodwood eucalypts are discussed, but a formal taxonomic system for these is not presented in this paper. The bloodwoods are placed in a new genus Corymbia. Relationships within the group are examined, and morphological interpretation and phytogeography are discussed. An infrageneric classification is presented with keys to infrageneric groupings and species. Some 113 species are described, 33 of which are new.
