Abstract

First record of genus Coelomomyces in Macau (China): Coelomomyces stegomyiae var. stegomyiae parasitizing Aedes albopictus.

Abstract

During a mosquito survey carried out in 1994-95, in Macau, C. stegomyiae var. stegomyiae was found parasitizing A. albopictus. This constitutes the first record of this fungal genus in the area. Only 1 larva was found parasitized among 18 apparently uninfected larvae from rainwater in a vase found on Coloane Island on 29 September 1995. This was the only positive 'breeding' place of the 127 A. albopictus larval biotopes surveyed; >700 A. albopictus were examined in the survey.
