Investigation on the parasitic mites of laboratory animals in Urumqi, Xinjiang.

Abstract

A survey of the mite infestation of 300 laboratory animals (mice, rats, rabbits and guineapigs) in a laboratory in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China, was conducted. The mites identified were Myocoptes musculinus, Radfordia affinis, R. ensifera, Trichoecius romboutsi, Psoroptes cuniculi, Sarcoptes scabiei, Cheyletiella parasitivorax (recorded for the first time in China) and Allodermanyssus sanguineus [Liponyssoides sanguineus]. All the mice, 63% of rats and 47% of rabbits, but none of the guineapigs were infested.
