Abstract

How much do bees contribute to the spread of fire blight?

Abstract

In 1995, considerable loss of apple and pear flowers in parts of Switzerland was caused by fire blight. A chemical treatment is not available, so it is recommended that honey bees - which are possible vectors of the bacteria [Erwinia amylovora] - should not be moved from areas with fire blight (which are listed) to fruit-growing areas without it.
