Genetics of resistance to flax rust in six Canadian flax cultivars.
The genetics of resistance to Melampsora lini in flax cultivars AC Linora, AC McDuff, Flanders, NorLin, NorMan and Somme was investigated in a series of crosses including 6 cultivars and 5 lines with known genes for rust resistance. Resistance to rust in each of AC Linora and Flanders is conditioned by the 2 dominant genes L6 and K1: both cultivars are homogeneous for L6 but heterogeneous for K1. AC McDuff is homogeneous for the dominant gene K1. Resistance in NorLin and Somme is conditioned by 2 dominant genes, L6 and a second gene that was not identified. NorLin and Somme are homogeneous for L6 but heterogeneous for the second gene. NorMan is homogeneous for the dominant gene L6. The gene K1 is present at low frequency in some NorMan genotypes.
