Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Fireblight extends its range.

Abstract

In 1993, various fruit-growing areas of W. and S. Germany were affected by fireblight [caused by Erwinia amylovora] to a greater extent than had previously been encountered. Apples were particularly affected, exhibiting blossom infections and, in some cases, symptoms on rootstocks. Causes of both types of infection are listed, crop monitoring and disease control measures are outlined, and the outlook for 1994 is discussed.
