Abstract

Models for the initiation of replication in dicot- and monocot-infecting geminiviruses are proposed with respect to reports that replication associated proteins from geminiviruses produce a nick in the invariant sequence 5′-TAATATTAC-3′ within the 'structurally conserved element' and that geminivirus ori has a modular organization with specific binding sites for AL1 proteins.
