Taxonomy and ecology of the aquatic pteridophytes of Kerala, south India.

The tropical humid climate with high rainfall levels is highly congenial for the growth of aquatic macrophytes in Kerala. The aquatic pteridophytes of Kerala (Acrostichum aureum, Azolla pinnata, Ceratopteris thalictroides, Equisetum ramosissimum, Isoetes coromandelina, Marsilea minuta, Microsporum pteropus and Salvinia molesta) are described with a key for their identification. The ecology, distribution, cytology and palynology of each species is critically discussed.
