Abstract

Fireblight in Sweden, experience and further work.

Abstract

Fireblight, caused by Erwinia amylovora, was first identified in the SE of Sweden in 1986 in an apple and pear orchard. The disease has since been found on Crataegus spp. and Cotoneaster spp. By 1989, due to favourable weather conditions, the disease had spread further. Infections were only eradicated when they were near nurseries and orchards. Tests were carried out to determine at which stage latent infections could be detected in the field. This paper was presented at the Sixth International Workshop on Fire Blight, held in Athens, Greece, 20-23 Oct. 1992.
