Clonal propagation of Albizzia lebbeck Benth. by tissue culture.
Hypocotyl, cotyledon and root explants obtained from in vitro grown seedlings of Albizia lebbeck, a fast growing leguminous tree suitable for afforestation in semiarid regions of Haryana, were cultured on MS, PC L2 and DG media supplemented with various concentrations and combinations of auxins and cytokinins. Callus induction and growth, respectively, were highest on MS medium containing 2 mg NAA and 1-2 mg BA + 1-2 mg 2,4-D/litre. Multiple shoots developed on MS medium containing 1-4 mg BA + 0.2-1.0 mg 2,4-D or 1 mg NAA + 2 mg BA/kinetin per litre. Plantlets regenerated on basal medium containing 3 mg NAA/litre, while shoots were regenerated from hypocotyls cultured on basal medium containing 3 mg kinetin/litre.
