Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Results from measurements of nitrogen and energy metabolism in cattle of different adaptive capacity.

Abstract

In trials with Galloway, Highland and Holstein cattle, energy and nutrient digestibility was not different between breeds when diets with widely differing nutrient composition were fed. Ambient temperature, 30°, 18° and 3°C, had no effect on digestibility in Holstein and Highland cattle. When the ambient temperature was decreased from 18° to 12° and 4-6°C, Galloway and Highland cattle showed no changes in heat production which was increased by 6 and 20%, respectively, in Holstein cattle.
