Toxins intrinsic to grasses include Phalaris poisoning, oxalates, cyanide and photosensitizing agents. Extrinsic toxin poisoning is also discussed including perennial ryegrass staggers due to Acremonium lolii, sleepygrass toxicosis due to Acremonium in Stipa robusta, facial eczema caused by sporidesmins, Fusarium poisoning, kikuyu grass poisoning and annual ryegrass toxicosis.
