Abstract

Formulation and insecticidal activity of petroleum oil fractions against the cowpea aphid, Aphis craccivora (Koch).

Abstract

Three fractions of petroleum oil: light medium (solar); medium (lubrication); and heavy oils were formulated as emulsifiable concentrates and tested against Aphis craccivora in the laboratory. The LC50s were 0.01, 0.016 and 0.07% for paraffin oil, lubrication oil and solar oil, resp. In semi-field experiments, no phytotoxicity was observed for 7 days after applications. Paraffin, solar and lubrication oils at 1.5, 1.5 and 2% and Masrona 4 oil at 2.25% were recommended for controlling A. craccivora on faba beans.
