Abstract

Efficacy of insecticides against potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella infesting potatoes in Maharashtra.

Abstract

The efficacy of 9 insecticides against Phthorimaea operculella on potatoes was tested in Maharashtra, India. Treatment with monocrotophos (0.6 kg a.i./ha), phenthoate (0.1 kg a.i./ha), chlorpyrifos (0.5 kg a.i./ha), fenitrothion (0.5 kg a.i./ha), phoxim (0.5 kg a.i./ha), permethrin (0.125 kg a.i./ha), cypermethrin (0.1 kg a.i./ha), deltamethrin (0.0125 kg a.i./ha) and fenvalerate (0.2 kg a.i./ha) at fortnightly intervals reduced pest populations. It is suggested that one of these insecticides should be applied on the appearance of pests with 2-3 repeat applications.
