Abstract

Host range of Cuscuta reflexa Roxb. from Doon Valley.

Abstract

In a systematic survey of the Doon Valley, Uttar Pradesh, 50 angiosperm species in 27 families (some of them forest trees) were recorded as hosts to Cuscuta reflexa, a parasitic plant. In all hosts, C. reflexa remained in a vegetative state from July to November, and caused no changes in the vegetative and reproductive state of the host, but during flowering in November and December, changes occurred in some hosts. Microscopic investigations are reported for 3 host species (Lantana camara, Duranta repens, Ipomoea fistulosa [I. carnea]). Details of the host species, severity of infection and degree of parasitism are tabulated, by family.
