Introduction of exotic tropical pines for industry.
Information is reviewed from trials of exotic pines (Pinus spp.) in India, regarding planting dates, seed predators, seeding behaviour, hybridization procedures, the development of varieties resistant to various agents (drought, planting stock storage under moist conditions, and fusiform rust (Cronartium fusiforme)), resin yield, extractive enhancement by paraquat treatment, chemical composition of monoterpenes and factors affecting it, and uses of non-timber products from exotic pines in Indian industry (turpentine, rosin, tall oil fatty acids, lignin, wood rosin and wood turpentine, and pine needles). The discussion (18 pp.) is supplemented by 45 pp. of data in tables and figures.
