Abstract

Survey of root rot of Anthurium.

Abstract

Calonectria crotalariae, Pythium splendens, P. spinosum, P. vexans and/or binucleate Rhizoctonia spp. were isolated from 11 Anthurium cultivars showing symptoms of root rot in Hawaii, USA. The isolates pathogenicity to all or some of the cultivars was confirmed. The herbicide diuron increased the disease incidence caused by binucleate Rhizoctonia. It is suggested that the regular use of herbicides in Anthurium cultivation may have contributed to the widespread occurrence of root rot in Hawaii.
