Abstract

CGA 219417: a novel broad-spectrum fungicide.

Abstract

CGA 219417 (proposed common name: cyprodinil) is a pyrimidinamine currently being developed as a foliar fungicide for cereals, grapes, vegetable crops and deciduous fruit. The fungicide has a new mode of action and shows no cross-resistance to any current market product. On cereals, CGA 219417 exhibits a broad fungicidal spectrum with good activity against Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides, Erysiphe graminis, Pyrenophora teres, Rhynchosporium secalis and Septoria nodorum [Leptosphaeria nodorum] on ears. When applied to grapes, vegetable crops and strawberries it shows potent activity against Botrytis spp. On deciduous fruit the key target pathogen genera are Venturia, Alternaria and Monilinia spp. The fungicide is reported to be safe for users, consumers and the environment (not harmful to beneficial organisms). It is suggested that the compound is a promising product for flexible integrated disease control practices.
