Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Karyological studies in South American grasses.

Abstract

Chromosome numbers are reported for 82 accessions belonging to the warm-season forage grass germplasm collections held at EMBRAPA/CENARGEN in Brasilia, Brazil, and at IBONE in Corrientes, Argentina, and representing 11 genera and 41 specific or infraspecific taxa. Among particularly well represented species are those of Paspalum, which were collected throughout Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, and proved predominantly diploid (2n = 20) or tetraploid (2n = 40), though 3 species proved to be pentaploid (2n = 50) and there were some cases of triploidy and hexaploidy.
