Abstract

Evaluation of insecticides against insect pest complex of soybean Glycine max (L) Merril.

Abstract

Nine insecticidal treatments were tested in the field in Andhra Pradesh, India, in 1991-92 against Bemisia tabaci, Frankliniella dampfi [F. schultzei], Megalurothrips distalis and Melanagromyza sojae on soyabeans. Seed treatment with carbosulfan at 20 g/kg seed followed by spraying with 0.05% monocrotophos at 31 and 51 days after sowing was considered the most effective treatment for controlling the majority of the insect pests and contributing to higher yields (3.30 kg/plot, as compared with 2.02 kg/plot for no treatment). Pre-sowing treatment with imidacloprid at 6 g/kg seed controlled M. sojae throughout the cropping season.
