A systematic catalogue of the mealybugs of the world (Insecta: Homoptera: Coccoidea: Pseudococcidae and Putoidae) with data on geographical distribution, host plants, biology and economic importance.

Abstract

This catalogue of the Pseudococcidae and Putoidae of the world lists 288 genera comprising 1947 species and subspecies, which have been described between 1758 and June 1993. The catalogue presents extensive data for all the taxa on taxonomy, nomenclature, type species depositories, synonyms, geographical distribution, food plants, biology and economic importance. New combinations are established for 13 species and 2 new names are introduced, namely Phenacoccus bazarovi and Pseudococcus savescui. The catalogue also contains discussion on suprageneric groups in these families and biographical data is provided for deceased coccidologists. Indices to genera and species are included.
