Aphids on the world's trees: an identification and information guide.
This book provides a comprehensive, species-by-species account of all the world's tree-dwelling aphids. It is intended to be used as an identification guide by entomologists and taxonomists, and as a database in studies of biosystematics and biodiversity. The introduction contains 2 chapters, on: the association between Aphididae and trees; and life cycles and polymorphism. A section entitled 'The trees and their aphids' incorporates a guide to use of the section, followed by 3 chapters on: morphology and key characters; host lists and keys for each tree genus (in alphabetical order); and keys to polyphagous tree-dwelling aphids. A section on the aphids incorporates an introduction and a systematic treatment of aphid genera (in alphabetic order). Chapters on techniques include: collecting methods; preservation and mounting; and labelling and storage. A bibliography, an index to species names of aphids, and photographs of slide-mounted aphids are provided.
