Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

New data on knowledge of species of the genus Trichogramma Westw. (Hymenoptera, Trichogrammatidae) of the USSR fauna with notes on synonymy.

Abstract

The results are given of an examination of deteriorated Trichogramma material from the collection of N.F. Meier, some questions of possible synonym in the nomenclature of Trichogramma from the former USSR are considered, and 2 new species are described. Examination of Meyer's T. bezdenkovii was supplemented by examination (with full description) of males and females obtained from Laspeyresia pomonella [Cydia pomonella] in Armenia. The species is considered very close to T. embryophagum, but differs from it in having longer hairs on the club of the male antenna; its specific status requires further verification. Examination of extensive T. cacoeciae [T. cacaeciae] material from different hosts and geographical regions indicated that while the male genitalia of material from Dendrolimus showed certain differences in relation to that from other hosts, the existence of a number of intermediate forms indicate the presence of a single species, so that T. cacaeciae should be considered a synonym of T. dendrolimi. Descriptions, with distinguishing characters, are given of T. savalense sp.nov. obtained from Autographa gamma in Voronezh region, and T. lenae sp.nov. from an unidentified lepidopteran in the Primor'e region. Males and females of T. sericini from Heliothis armigera [Helicoverpa armigera] in Dagestan (a new record for the former USSR), of which a description is also given, differed only slightly from those of the Peking population from which the species was originally described.
