Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Some physiological parameters in 5 breeds of sheep subjected to heat stress.

Abstract

After 4 h in the shade at 22°C and a RH of 65%, 100 Australian Merino (AM), Polwarth, Corriedale, Romney and Ile-de-France (IF) ewes were subjected to a temperature of 40.2°C and a RH of 65% in a climatic chamber for 3 h, followed by 1 h at 22.13°C and a RH of 77%. The AM ewes had the highest sweating rate and the lowest respiration rate, followed by Polwarths and Corriedales. The sweating rate of AMs was significantly higher than those of Romneys and IFs (P<0.01).
