Abstract

Genetic characterization of introduced populations of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, in Asturias (northern Spain).

Abstract

Biochemical polymorphism at 5 enzyme loci was studied in liver and muscle tissues of Atlantic salmon stocks that were used to repopulate Asturian rivers. A comparison of genetic distances between these stocks and natural Asturian populations indicated that the contribution from introduced fish to the genetic constitution of populations of Atlantic salmon in the Asturian rivers was negligible.
