Control of scald (Rhynchosporium secalis) in winter barley - summary from previous years trials.
In winter barley trials during 1983-92 when scald was the dominant disease, there was only a mean yield increase of 9% (5.3 hkg per ha) following fungicide treatment, but the variation was high, with the highest yield increase 17%. Many of the ergosterol inhibiting fungicides were tested and gave 65-89% control. Mixtures of EBI-fungicides provided >80% control and flusilazole alone gave 89% control. The following products are recommended against scald: tebuconazole, tebuconazole + triadimenol, flusilazole, flusilazole + fenpropimorph, prochloraz, prochloraz + fenpropimorph, prochloraz + fenpropidin, prochloraz + cyproconazole, propiconazole, propiconazole + fenpropimorph, propiconazole + tridemorph.
